Cytomegalovirus (CMV) Month

In common with all the other awareness campaigns this month, scleroderma is another mostly unknown and yet debilitating illness that affects many people. Scleroderma is a chronic (persistent and long lasting) “systemic autoimmune disease” primarily of the skin, characterized by fibrosis or hardening of the skin, and affects 300,000 people in the US. As well as skin problems, sufferers can experience vascular hardening which can be very much more serious. Before you respond to hearing about scleroderma with “sclero-what?” take the time to learn about this painful and potentially life threatening disease.
